Bomba Rooftop appropriates the existing open rooftop terrace space atop Bomba in Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. Previously only usable during fine weather the space is now able to be used all year round.
The magic of the project lies in the implied and changeable quality of the space, incorporating a retractable roof and operable glazing that, when open, slides away and disappears behind the parapet balustrade. A discreet and non-intrusive intervention, the steel structure implies the definition of an internalised space, however the material selection (glass and translucent roof sheeting) allow the space to maintain an external quality even when enclosed.
