Keele St, Collingwood
Formerly part of a warehouse in Collingwood, this space has been converted into a bright and modern open plan interior. A palette of warm timber, red brick, raw steel and bright white give the space a contemporary feel while preserving its warmth and character by maintaining key features of its past life. The original timber trusses, such a feature of the voluminous space, were sandblasted back to reveal warm tones while maintaining and expressing their imperfections.
A first floor mezzanine has been inserted in to the space and utilises webforge steel grating as both balustrade and floor grille to emphasise its lofty position. This break-away space is afforded a raw industrial edge with an enviable vantage point through the trusses to the open plan space below.
Existing amenities were updated and tucked away behind a red brick wall and charcoal and stainless steel kitchen. The original steel windows were retained and combined with new skylights, flood the interior with natural light while new high performance glazing mitigates the west orientation.
